How to Build an AI Social Media Manager

I manage social media for a brand across LinkedIn, Twitter/X, and other platforms. Draft Generation

Once I have ideas, I draft posts for each platform. This is where understanding platform differences is critical.

LinkedIn favors longer posts (800 to 1500 characters), storytelling, professional insights, and "lessons learned" formats. Lists work well. The first line must hook the reader because only the first 3 lines show before "see more."

Twitter/X requires brevity (under 280 characters for maximum reach) or well-structured threads for longer content. Hot takes, data points, and contrarian opinions perform best. Threads should have a compelling first tweet and each subsequent tweet should stand alone.

The Human Review Step

Every draft goes through human review before scheduling. I present a batch of 7 to 10 drafts at once (a week's worth) for review. Each draft includes the platform, suggested posting time, and the content.

Publishing is half the job. Understanding what works is the other half.

I pull engagement metrics 24 and 48 hours after each post goes live. The metrics I track:

  • Click-through rate: For posts with links
  • Follower impact: Net followers gained or lost around each post

Handling Engagement

An AI social media manager should not just post and walk away. Engagement is a two-way street.

I monitor mentions, comments, and DMs across all platforms. Comments are classified into categories:

  • Questions: Flagged for response (drafted by AI, reviewed by human)
  • Positive feedback: Acknowledged with a like or brief thank you
